and we stood solemnly from a distance observing the funeral, the sun took a mercy on us and went hiding. the place was flooded, by families, friends, and strangers. yes, i know we're just complete strangers, but strangers that we came face to face every weekend at the kallang pontoon, strangers that we had competed against, strangers that became brethren for a single passion.

my heart sank when i saw their families, brittle and shaken. but they tried their very best to finish the last journey with their sons.

the send off was one of the best anyone could be offered, covered with the nation's flag, fellow teammates as the pallbearers, and surrounded by hundreds of people that saluted them.

and at the sight of their loves' one breaking down, choking on their tears while trying to finish their eulogies, i couldn't put up a strong front any longer.

without equivocation, i hope they do find peace, and never forget about their one upmost passion.

some goodbyes are harder to say. and some, are never meant to be said.

it was only during my exam this evening that i realised tomorrow will be the cremation. and i stared blankly through the window panels, watching the rain drops pelted down.

i secretly hoped that tomorrow never comes. and we'll all wake up to realise it was just another nightmare.

it seems surreal to me as i walked down the the memory's lanes of National Museum of Singapore and talks about the future.

and as the chandeliers ocsillate under the cascading sunlight through the window plane, that very moment you would hope to stop time, and simply look at each other in the eyes.

my eyes are smeared.

sigh.

dragon boat.

its more than just the paddle and the people and the boat.

its more than the hard work and sweat over the weekends.

its more than winning a medal.
